chris burn and his musical partner of many years john butcher und john edwards invite musicians from the berlin and viennese improvisation scene for this concert. chris burn has extracted score-like structures from previous sound mixes of his improvisation set and re-scored them for smaller formations. graphical scores and non-notational methods of composition are confronted with free improvisation. the sound world of the ensemble combines improvised music from a european tradition, contemporary and composed music as well as the playing methods of new electronics. the concert draws on the tradition of chris burn's ensembles, founded in 1984, in which the pianist is able to try and test the possibility of structuring music for a larger group of improvisers. this project is a cooperation between the fünfhaus institut, charhizma and tesla and is supported by the bundeskulturstiftung |
